Stop moaning about the elderly
In response to J Moriarty's letter (Thursday December 9), stop complaining about pensioners not getting a cut in welfare. They have worked hard, they didn't buy two houses, a couple of cars and have multiple holidays a year. Most of the old-age pensioners today had very little money for luxuries and brought up a family without the enormous Children's Allowance of today.
The Children's Allowance should have been cut by more. I brought up two daughters and when we didn't have money we learnt to do without. You can feed your family on very little -- it just takes a little thought. The 4pc cut in Children's Allowance is less than the drop in the cost of living. We need to help these pensioners, not all of them have private pensions.
