Steer clear of 'wild' camping

AS an avid fan of the outdoor life, I was delighted to read John Cradden's article, 'Carry on Camping' (Irish Independent, August 26). I feel that the more people who become aware of this wonderful way of holidaying, the better

But back when I was a boy scout, many moons ago, it didn't cost us a thought to leave a tent, packed with all our valuables and secured with nothing more than a zip, for an entire day, whilst we went exploring the Wicklow Mountains. Sadly, those days are no more.

When I became a born-again camper and bought my camper van nine years ago, I was inundated with advice, from the camper-van salesmen to the Motorcaravan Club to the people who sold me the accessories for my new toy, never to 'wild camp'.
