State's priorities are a million miles from society's

lListening to 'Liveline' this week, many of the callers were relating tales of their financial distress and the grim realities caused by income reductions over the previous four Budgets.

As Joe Duffy empathised and sympathised, the fact did not seem to register with his callers that in 2009 he was reportedly paid €389,314 (€7,486 per week) by RTE, a loss-making organisation funded with their money.

Last week, Mr Duffy was indignant when discussing the admittedly lavish pension entitlement of former ministers, TDs and senators; I wondered, does Mr Duffy have the moral authority to comment on such matters given the size and source of his own income?
