Staff pay not to blame for cuts
Madam -- I would like to respond to an article by Maeve Sheehan in last week's Sunday Independent.
I trained as a nurse 27 years ago. I have worked with people who have an intellectual disability ever since.
In the article she refers to Mr Tom Healy, who has a daughter, Sally Ann, who is 27 and has cerebral palsy. Mr Healy speaks about the severe cutbacks in his daughter's service, which is a voluntary body. He believes that the pay increments given to staff under the Croke Park agreement are the cause of these cutbacks.
