Stadium's energy boost costs us all

IT was with much amusement that I read a newspaper article recently concerning the installation of a €300,000 solar water-heating-system in Breffni Park Stadium, Co Cavan.
The chairman of Kingspan Breffni Park was quoted as saying that this new solar power system would save more than €4,000 per year on the gas bill. If correct, what an abhorrent waste of public money -- given that the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland has contributed €100,000 towards the cost of the installation.
If you do the maths, with a saving of €4,000 per year, it will take 75 years to cover the initial capital cost.
