St Vincent De Paul needs to 'get real'

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw the comments from the St Vincent De Paul Society spokesman (Irish Independent, December 6).
Apparently, they are unwilling to accept used toys as "second-hand toys really take the dignity away from families". This is coming from the same people who claim to need counselling for their staff, so bad is the poverty out there.
These people need to get real. Most of the toys I had as a kid were second-hand or hand-me-downs. These charities and those they support are still living like the Celtic Tiger is alive and kicking.
