St Patrick's pathetic

St Patrick's Day used to be a Catholic holiday and by its very nature could be regarded as sectarian. Now it has turned into a drinking festival, with drunks lining our streets and vomiting when they cannot drink any more. The next day the streets are covered with cider bottles and rubbish, and the smell of vomit fills the air.

The parades themselves are by and large the same themes every year with the same groups participating and the usual bands from America playing tunes that they alone know.

The festival has become a washout and there is a case for a massive scaling down. Even the Americans are probably sick of it and think it's silly, as evidenced by the fact that Barack Obama didn't see fit to accept the US bowl of shamrock in the White House until two days after the event.
