Special interests dominate politics

The decision not to touch the welfare pension in the Budget smacks of discrimination given the cuts and tax increases that are claimed to be needed everywhere.

Welfare is welfare and the state pension is no exception and should have been up there on the list with the rest of the state benefit cuts. Would it cripple pensioners to dock them €5 in the Budget and make vital savings in that area?

Many people were expecting cuts across the board in getting this country out of its predicament, however this has not happened and it is clear that red-letter categories have been given a remarkable dispensation.
