The conversation on the neutrality issue within the columns of the Irish Independent is enlightening and long overdue. However, our neutrality had its darker side. It was a damn dirty business and the cost to some families still endures in their memory.
While the policy was arguably correct, there were aspects of it which one can only describe as "morally bankrupt".
There were Irish victims of the Nazis and one has over many years engaged on projects here and in Germany to shine some light on the past. Coincidently, German television is expected to broadcast a programme in September 2012 on the war crimes of the German navy that will include Irish input.
