Sold out into a spiral of utter ruin

'Red Letters' (Letters, January 11) & 'Pension Pain' (Letters, January 10) made for disheartening and painful reading even for me here in Australia; what must it be like for those eking out an existence in Ireland?
On November 22, 2011, I wrote to Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Gilmore revoking my Irish citizenship in disgust with the disgraceful and inane actions of the Government.
His response of December 22 clearly illustrates how far out of touch with reality in Ireland today Mr Gilmore is: "We are in government to work on behalf of the men and women who elected us to achieve a better future for all our citizens. This requires taking decisions all of which have consequences and which affect people. Given the economic constraints I believe we are achieving a fair and balanced government."
