Solar power is the costly option

James Gleeson claims that wind energy is too 'unpredictable' and that solar energy is the answer (Letters, June 16).
Wind energy, indirectly, is solar energy, but roughly 10 times cheaper to produce than using reflector or PV technology, which is more suitable for the Sahara.
Sunshine in Ireland is certainly not more 'predictable' than the wind.
