Soccer farce

• Now that the dust has settled after a wonderful Euro 2012, I would like to ask Michel Platini when is he going to accept that the emperor has no clothes? I am, of course, talking about the UEFA president's intransigent opposition to the use of goal-line technology.

As it stands, FIFA and UEFA are wilfully complicit in the perpetration of sporting injustices in their refusal to adopt the technology. The disallowance of the legitimate goal scored by Ukraine against England gives yet another example of an innocent party suffering because of this refusal.

If Mr Platini ascends Sepp Blatter's throne and maintains his stance against goal-line technology, his technophobic fantasy that additional assistant referees will solve the problem should not be indulged.
