Small schools are vital to our Irishness

I COME from a small school in a small village in the west of Ireland and I have got from that experience a sense of parish, county and country. Small schools have a place in our heritage.
They help to instill in us a sense of place, pride in ourselves and pride of place. While the education provided is the same curriculum, small schools can also help to keep villages alive economically and socially. So I ask Ruairi Quinn to look at the issue of closing them with a broader perspective because he is closing the door on something that cannot be replaced – our roots, our Irishness, OURSELVES.
