Sir -- Andrea Smith's article in last week's paper (Sunday Independent, August 22) left me in despair. Not at how heartless the utility companies are, but at how naive she is in expecting everyone else to subsidise her lifestyle.
Her article suggests a person who is living far beyond her means and is in need of some lifestyle culling. Her final sentence: "After all, in these recessionary times, there is a very important distinction to be made between those who won't, and those who simply can't pay their bills," was probably the most cringeworthy piece of them all.
