• Last night I attended a very weird meeting. The famous chairman opened up by asking the multinational CEO on my right to identify the problem. He replied that we were all paying ourselves too much. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather till everybody laughed.
It soon became apparent that nobody -- not troikas, nor governments or technocrats -- was prepared to do anything about it; they were quite happy to drift aimlessly on the current in their well-feathered cockleshell canoes waiting for the miracle to come. The first decent mid-winter storm or freak wave and they will be swamped along with everybody else. The location of this meeting? In my bed at about 2am this morning.
