Shannon policy could lead to total disaster

The majestic River Shannon seems to be under attack these days. One of the attacks arises from Dublin's mismanaged water system and the quick-fix solution to tap into the Shannon.
The other arises from the proposed gas exploration at one of the Shannon's main lakes, Lough Allen. The chemicals alone used in the 'fracking' process to extract these gas reserves would eventually escape into the Shannon water system and put paid to any natural drinking water from the river.
The banking and property crises will be short-lived compared to the potential environmental and economic disaster possibly awaiting our nation because of these decisions.
