Sex-free Sixties? Get real, Eilis

Madam -- I believe I am having my leg pulled! (Eilis O'Hanlon, Sunday Independent, October 7, 2012). Does she seriously think her readers believe that the late Sixties/early Seventies in the UK was "really an age of ignorance and silence in which sex was not spoken about"? We are talking about the era of the mini-skirt, the sexual revolution, the swinging Sixties, the summer of love, the widespread availability of the contraceptive pill, and the Jimi Hendrix concerts on the Isle of Wight, where according to photo-journalists of that time, "everyone was chucking off their clothes and running around like bunny rabbits".

The permissiveness of this time seems to have cultivated rather than discouraged the deviant behaviour alleged against the erstwhile esteemed DJ, Jimmy Savile.
