Serious reform means cutting TDs

One of the buzzwords of this election campaign is reform. Most of the parties agree that the Seanad should go, but the greatest signal of true reform would be the radical streamlining of Dail Eireann.
We have, comparing us with many other nations, at least 100 TDs too many. Here's how the haircut could be achieved -- six TDs for Dublin, two each for the other 25 counties plus two for Cork city and one each for Galway and Limerick. A nice even 60.
Such a reduction in TDs, along with the abolition of the Seanad and the Presidency, would send out a clear message that the Republic is cleaning up its act. Reform must start at the top. It's over to you, Enda.
