Sense of community will ease our hurt

Older citizens of the great city of Dublin will remember with affection the antics of Thomas 'Bang-Bang' Dudley.

Bang-Bang, a man "touched by God", would probably be defined as learning disabled today, but back in the 1950s and 1960s he was regarded as a harmless eccentric.

He would jump on to buses and pretend to shoot everyone, with his hand shaped like a gun -- the way children used to play cowboys -- or sometimes pointing a huge key.
