Selfish savagery... Head in the clouds... Name game
- Referring to reports about the Stag Hunt, I would like to comment on Master of the Ward Union Hunts Michael Baily's quote, "we are so deflated; it's all about the thrill of the chase and that was lost here today." Apparently St Stephen's Day's hunt left them so upset they couldn't look at each other in the pub afterwards. Well poor them.
What comes to mind is a spoilt child who has had his ball taken away despite having a box of other toys.
The bloodlust is so strongly enshrined in these people's mentality that they openly admit that the cruelty involved in stag hunting is acceptable as long as these spoiled children are amused.

- Recent contributors to your letters page have decried the Irish public for re-electing Bertie Ahern and the current government. Many of your recent contributors also are critical of what they believe are unbelievable tales from Bertie regarding his financial affairs.
Perhaps I can tie the two phenomena together. According to the latest Census, in 2006, only 4.5pc of the Irish population don't believe in God. With over 95pc of the Irish population actively believing in fairytales what more can your contributors expect?

- Minister John Gormley is to be commended for announcing that he will bring in legislation that will ensure that our towns and villages will no longer be allowed to be grossly misplanned in relation to their size. The Minister should go further, though. He should bring an end to the ridiculous naming of many our new residential developments by bringing in statutory naming committees in every council to ensure that developments are named appropriately.
