Schools are no burden

Sir -- Daniel McConnell's article last week on potential government savings once more included and reinforced a misconception that private schools are an increased burden on the State and that withdrawing the State subvention for such schools would save €101m p/a.

My three children will be attending such schools in 2010/2011.

I have saved very hard from my earnings over many years to afford such private education for my kids -- as a family we do not drive new cars or take annual overseas holidays.
