Save our history, save our tourism

A CORRESPONDENT ('Make the most of tourism', Letters, January 18) talks about tourism as if Ireland was the quaint country of the past that people wanted to come to.

For most tourists I met in Galway, the disappointment in coming to a country that had bulldozed the past in the name of convenience was palpable.

It's nice here, most commented, although the ugly traffic jams and an inability to 'get away from it all' reared its head.
