Sir -- The All Ireland Talent Show, which reaches the semi-finals stage tonight, has proved popular with viewers and understandably so. But why do RTE and presenter Grainne Seoige add to the stress of competitors and their families by the delayed manner in which the results are announced?
Ms Seoige tells us: "The act going through to the next round is ...." and then, presumably for effect, pauses for up to 10 seconds before giving the result.
Meanwhile, the cameras pan mercilessly across the faces of the waiting performers, who are torn between hope and desperation. Some of them, as was the case last week, are mere children. The whole exercise seems particularly cruel.
