RTE clarifies issue

•Your front-page piece on Wednesday, October 19, concerning RTE's disclosure of top presenters' earnings was inaccurate and misrepresented RTE's position.
The report stated that ". . . RTE refused to publish details of its stars' salaries despite saying it would do so three months ago". This is untrue. Your reporter, on contacting RTE, had been clearly advised that RTE will publish shortly, once the preparation of the relevant details is completed. She was also told that this process was close to completion. There is no basis therefore for stating that RTE "refused to publish".
The article went on to state: "It means the figures currently in the public domain -- from 2008 -- are out of date." RTE's policy for many years has been to issue details two years in arrears, in order to provide transparency while also protecting commercial confidentiality. The disclosure is voluntary and thorough.
