Rooney's deal can't be justified

SO Manchester United, using fans' money, has agreed to pay Wayne Rooney £200,000 (€225,000) a week.
Even in good times this would seem exorbitant but in these hard times, when the poor are being driven into poverty for want of funds, God himself would be put to the pin of his toga to explain away such a salary, even though He is said to be the daddy of all creative playmakers. No doubt you will be inundated with howls of protest from those who, this past two years, have been attacking the pay and conditions of nurses, gardai, teachers and a whole host of others who actually do the State some service.
And, of course, "we are all in this together".
