Sir -- I refer to the article 'France is right ... let's boot out muggers', by Eamon Delaney (Sunday Independent August 7, 2011). According to Mr Delaney this is not the first time he has written expressing his grave concern regarding the continued begging and anti-social behaviour in the Phibsboro area in Dublin, which he says has only got worse and I quote "but the situation has worsened specifically because of the Roma gypsies who have increased in presence and activity much to the dismay of the shopkeepers, residents and visitors to the area".
Any form of anti-social behaviour is totally unacceptable. However, the negative and harmful behaviour of the Roma gypsies which now sadly includes the targeting of old people, pick-pocketing and mugging them, just has to be dealt with urgently by our Government before the situation spirals out of control.
Enough is enough, there is only so much people can take. It is shameful that our politicians do nothing and say nothing about such dysfunction which is evident in our society. Surely it is everyone's basic right to feel safe in one's neighbourhood -- which after all makes up the fabric of society. I agree with Eamon Delaney, this is nothing to do with racism but everything to do with malicious anti-social behaviour.
