Respect validity of gay marriage

Madam -- Much credit is due to Eamon Gilmore in his support of same-sex marriage. Were it not for one of his predecessors, I am sure that homosexuality would still be illegal in Ireland.

Has that change in the law caused any damage or personal injury to any member of our society, apart from the arrogant homophobes? Neither will gay marriage, if approved, cause difficulties. There will be objections of course, but it will not be compulsory.

We should all realise and respect that gay marriage is the affirmation of love, respect and loyalty between two people of the same sex, which possesses the same quality and sincerity expressed between heterosexual couples.
