Reports do not help students

IT'S that time of year once more -- Leaving Cert results time, that is.
Every year, we get the 'straight A' students splashed all over the newspapers and boys-versus-girls comparisons. Year after year, we are told that girls far outshine boys in most subjects. Why this comparison and what does it achieve?
Boys and girls work equally hard in most cases. So what if some don't have the same ability academically as their fellow students?
