Remembering our war heroes

Published 22/05/2011 | 05:00

Sir -- With the Queen visiting Islandbridge it has finally been acknowledged that Irish citizens fought in the First World War for England. I am a fifth-year student and I was never taught about Irish people fighting in the First World War. However, I did know vaguely about it due to the fact that my great-grandad fought in the war and was severely injured.

Since the Queen's visit I think it's great that the Irish men and women who fought in the war are recognised and remembered as heroes.
