Religion should help all equally
Monday November 09 2009
In his article on 'The belligerent drive towards secularism' (Irish Independent, November 6), David Quinn laments that "we are about to pass a law in this country. . . that will force Christians against their conscience to facilitate same-sex civil unions".
While I am generally open to other people's opinions, I am not open to them using their opinions to stop doing their job. If I was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, I would be able to claim my religion as Protestant Christian, my ideology as white supremacy and my political position as far right -- and I would no doubt use all three to justify my racist activities.
Religion should only be used to help all people equally, especially in the eyes of the law. Mr Quinn is big enough and old enough to know this already.
I'd prefer if he kept himself out of my business, my family and my newspaper.
