Red Cross ethos is clear to everyone

So a spokesman for the British Red Cross doesn't want it to be seen as a Christian or Jewish organisation (iSpy, December 20)?

Well, it's certainly not a Jewish one -- they have the Red Star of David, or Magen David Adom, for that.

However, the Red Cross flag (which, in honour of Henry Dunant, its founder in 1863 and who just happened to be Swiss) was derived from the Swiss flag, which had originally been modelled, in 1339, on the Cross of the Crusaders.
