Recycling charge is blatant rip-off

The Government's decision to introduce a charge of €3 for anybody using a civil amenity centre has been disastrous. The older system was proportional and persons who disposed of papers and containers among other things were not charged at all.
There is a notable drop-off in people using local council amenity sites since the charge was brought in and a rise in the sightings of illegally dumped waste. This is a prime example of government policy having not been thought through -- by introducing a piece of bureaucracy only to see the result of it by the side of the road.
Many people rightly believe recycling should be free of charge as companies make money out of it.
