Recall politicians who break their promises

Your report on voter sentiment (Irish Independent, June 22) indicates that voters are divided on whether they were misled by Fine Gael and Labour over their pre-election promises and this is borne out here in the north-west where it is now widely believed that election candidates of both these parties grossly misled the electorate regarding cancer services in the region.

This has prompted many to now ask, "Can we have our votes back?" And there is a system which could satisfy that desire called a "recall election".

This is a process whereby the electorate can petition to trigger a vote on the suitability of an existing elected representative to continue in office.
