Racing industry has done us proud -- now let's support it

Ireland has been given a significant morale boost by the spectacular performance of the Irish racing industry at Cheltenham.

Even after being faced with a horrific winter and the resultant training difficulties, along with horrendous economic constraints, this industry has shown just how resilient its people are. They have been a source of Irish pride on English soil. They clearly demonstrate what it is to be Irish and deserve our warmest congratulations.

This industry -- which is so important to the rural economy -- needs tangible supports. Our new Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar said the Government was working on a number of measures to restore employment in the tourism industry. He needs to do the same for the equestrian industry.
