Race for the Aras

•It is of great consolation to me as I reach my retirement to know that Sean Gallagher, a leading entrepreneur and presidential candidate, can live on €233 a week, as his 2010 P60 returns have confirmed.
If he is successful in the election, the Irish people will no doubt be assured that Sean will use these budgeting skills to great effect in the Aras. Sean's ability to remain tight-lipped about these modest earnings is also surprising, not least because of the public commitment made by Martin McGuinness to living on the average industrial wage.
His frugality and modesty should be an example to his ex-Fianna Fail colleagues, whose squanderous tendencies have imperilled us all. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.
