Quinn's tea party call takes biscuit
READING David Quinn’s ‘Ireland needs our own version of US Tea Party’ (Irish Independent, November 5), I couldn’t help thinking how blinkered and forgetful the right wing can be.
David urges us to embrace wealth-creation measures in the form of lower taxes for wealthier people (Joe the plumber) and to move away from ‘big government’. This is classic capitalism. Unrestrained and lightly regulated, the private-sector wealth creators will lift all boats as they forge ahead.
What utter rubbish. Sorry, David, but we have just been through exactly that and the country is broke. Joe the plumber made his millions thanks to a complicit government that was paid feck-all in taxes. He borrowed billions while Joe banker pushed cheap credit without regulatory constraint.
