Quinn wrong on Nawi's public role

David Quinn complains "we did not know about Ezra Nawi's life and career from the beginning of [David Norris's] candidacy" (Irish Independent, August 1).

He should speak for himself. Whatever his past misdemeanours, Nawi is one of the most widely respected Israeli advocates for Palestinian human rights, whose defence of the beleaguered residents of the Hebron region of the occupied West Bank has on many occasions led to his suffering violence at the hands of Israeli soldiers.

Mr Norris has always been up front about his personal relationship with Nawi.
