Put simply, Irish is not first tongue

Sir -- If I could just give a few pointers to Colm O'Rourke (Sunday Independent, Feb 20, 2011), regarding the Irish language. Irish students find it so difficult because in the majority of Irish homes, Irish is not the first language. It is English, because the parents cannot speak Irish.

As a former pupil of Easkey Vocational School Co Sligo, there ends the first lesson.
