Given the volume of public sector pay demands in a time when the country is still running a massive deficit, we should consider what would be necessary to address the demands.

While I'm a private sector worker, I'm particularly concerned about the fact the gardaí are striking, given their unique role in society.

The gardaí have the power to arrest, limit freedom and maintain the peace, while any other individual replicating this role would constitute a crime.
