Protect kids from school dictators

A student in Limerick dyes a red streak into his hair and, a week later, goes to his school to sit his Leaving Cert exams (Irish Independent, June 19).

The school principal "sees red" and orders this young man to shave his head.

He then makes him sit alone to do the exam, thereby multiplying his stress levels for the most important exam of his life to date. It seems the practice of teachers imposing their narrow prejudices on their charges has not gone away.
