Private school pays extra costs

Madam -- In the article by Philip Ryan, October 14, 2012, on fee-paying schools, it is stated that St Conleth's "received €873,181 from the State last year". While the State pays the salaries of 13 teachers, the school also pays the salaries of all additional staff including teaching, administrative and caretaking and covers all maintenance.

We have built various extensions over the years from our own resources. A recent extension was funded by a mortgage of over €2m from the Bank of Ireland. We do not receive the cost of capital outlay.

The report gives a wrong impression.
