Private Ryan to stay on Late shift
Sir -- Regarding Niamh Horan's article, 'Late Late needs saving from private Ryan', (Sunday Independent, April 17), she is not speaking for me when she recommends that RTE should replace Ryan Tubridy as host of the Late Late Show.
He is hosting a late-night chat show, not a judge-and-jury session. Tubridy is perfectly entitled to treat his private life as just that, his private life. He is also quite right to protect his family and friends from the results of invasive questioning with consequent public reporting, and I would applaud him for also protecting the same aspect of his guests' lives. Non-aggression as opposed to aggression in this life may often yield more insight in many areas, not least in interviewing and journalism. Tubridy does interview in a firm way when he is seeking information. His sense of humour is always present but he does defer to his guests, as everyone should to an invited guest.
