Presidential contest is ripe for protest vote

TWO favourites have been forced out of the presidential race, and with no likelihood that the current incumbent would be allowed a third term, it seems we, as voters, are being denied our preferred choices.

In the US, voters can write on the ballot paper the name of a person they feel should have been in the election. Maybe the Irish voters should do the same, even if there isn't a space for it, as a protest over the treatment of presidential candidates that has forced two good men out of the contest.
