Polls apart on vote figures

Sir -- In your last issue (Sunday Independent, March 6, 2011), Willie Kealy wrote that the electorate did not want a coalition. He is quite entitled to his opinion but could I suggest his article should be compulsory reading on how to quote figures to suit any hypothesis.
If he is examining FG-to-Labour transfers then he must make some allowances for the other FG candidates still in the running when the transfers are taking place.
My attention was drawn to his figures from Co Clare. There is no doubt that McNamara, the Labour candidate, got 19 per cent of the FG transfers on the elimination of Mulcahy (FG).
