Politicians are out of touch

Madam – I commend Dermot Duggan (Letters, Sunday Independent, February 10, 2013) for pointing out what is obvious to everyone except to the Government. The people who sit (sometimes) in Leinster House are so far removed for the real world out here it's shameful.

Who in this day and age gets paid extra for just turning up for work? Then more money towards bus, taxi and train fare.

I wish someone would pay my travel expenses to work – that is if I could find work.

This Government talks about creating jobs and points to the very slight drop in numbers on the dole, but forgets to mention the thousands who have to emigrate every month.

Mr Duggan is right when he talks about the wealthy people in Leinster House. Last week I went to see my local Labour TD, who is a teacher and will have his teaching job waiting for him, to point out to him similar issues, only to be told it was the fault of the previous government. Now where did we hear that before?
