Political horsepower

- "Incitatus" so far, has not been blamed for the fall of the Roman Empire. Not sure what that proves save having a horse sitting on the backbenches means that the nation will be not better or worse off intellectually.

Indeed, considering the love that many Irish leaders have for the horse, the Galway Races, tents and the rather large wedges won by some, I am amazed that no Taoiseach has appointed a horse to our Senate . . . yet.

The €100 house tax, along with income tax levies, insurance hikes, health cover, utilities costs, etc, does the nation many great services. However, it also contributes to M'Lud's wigs, tipstaff, overcoat and library allowance.
