Point missed on plans for ID card

Over the past two days, you have reported on the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) coming out with two statements -- including one on sinister proposals for a national ID card.
This is to be forced on the people of Ireland on some spurious grounds of "dole fraud" or "fighting terrorism" to further control the flock, er, free citizens for their own good. So the ICCL said they were "concerned by some aspects of the proposed ID card".
Then we have the ICCL screaming about the "rights of burglars not to be shot dead" and predicting shooting sprees by irate Irish householders against kids daring to rob apples from an orchard (Irish Independent, January 28).
