Some of us have more than 30 years' experience in the study and teaching of English and we believe that in beauty and power of language, in depth of theme and powers of construction, and in sheer freshness and originality, the poems in this collection are among the very finest by any poet of this generation.

One particular aspect of his approach is the presentation of the writer as prophet and sage.
