Plus ca change

• The transformation in Fianna Fail in relation to its newfound stance on the property tax is amazing. Like St Paul, it has suddenly been converted to the real world where families are facing enormous hardships on a daily basis, but it is a bit too late to be jumping on the bandwagon on the issue at this stage.

This is the same party that brought in the Universal Social Charge for those on the meagre income of €80 a week and reduced the minimum wage and, like the present government, never considered addressing the maximum wage for their own cronies at the top.

It also tried to take medical cards from pensioners who had to tighten their belts previously during their working life under a FF government while its leader was wining and dining in exclusive restaurants around the world. The reality is that it is only playing politics on the issue with the people at this stage. The people it represents deserve better than that.
