Ploughing it all back into the economy

"IRELAND will and must demonstrate to the wider world not only we are open for business, but we are on the way to securing our economic recovery on a sustainable basis" -- part of Taoiseach Brian Cowen's statement in Government Buildings early last week.
At the final session of the National Ploughing Championships only a few days later, trudging through ankle-deep mud with the rest of the 70,000 in attendance, his eyes were opened. Never had he seen such a practical display of sustenance and enthusiasm.
Despite the fact that the farming community had endured two very difficult years in terms of farm income they came back fighting -- lucky this was a good year from the production and price perspective.
